The original brass pipe we all know and love, our Proto Pipe® Classic was designed by Phil Jergenson in the late 60’s. It features permanent screen holes, a lid to snuff your bowl out, and a removable poker, stash pod, and tar trap.  The address stamped into the stash pod hole and the PP stamped on the lid ensure that your Proto Pipe is authentic.

Care Instructions

To care for a Proto Pipe, regular maintenance is essential for longevity and smooth performance. Depending on usage, occasional spot cleaning or a thorough weekly cleaning will help prevent excessive buildup. Cleaning while the resin is still soft is much easier than waiting for it to harden. Use a pipe cleaner, isopropyl alcohol, and Q-tips to remove residue from the bowl, chamber, and mouthpiece. Disassemble the removable components, soak them in rubbing alcohol, and wipe out the tubes and bowl for a deeper clean. After cleaning, thoroughly rinse all parts with hot water to remove any remaining residue. Keeping your Proto Pipe well-maintained not only enhances performance but also preserves its classic look and function.

  • The Poker:

The poker is the key component of the Proto Pipe, securing both the stash tube and tar trap in place. If the poker becomes loose, gently push the collar on the stash tube upward to create tension. This tension holds the poker securely, preventing it from falling out and ensuring the pipe stays properly assembled. Keeping the poker snug ensures smooth functionality and easy maintenance.

Very good pipe

Amazing little pipe, wasn't a super big fan when I first got it, but the more I use it, the more I love it. Everyone should get one. The lid makes it easy to take a puff, close the lid and toss it right in your pocket, ready to open the lid and take another puff any time without spilling what is left. And the backup herb tub for storage holds enough to refill the pipe 4 or 5 times. Very nice. Going to order another model soon

Perfect size, very discrete, solid.

I've been smoking for 20 years and this is the best all around pipe I've ever used. The construction is SOLID - nothing cheap feeling at all. The bowl is perfectly sized and draws nice. The reservoir holds a good amount - plenty for a hike or maybe even a weekend trip. If you keep the bowl lid clean and adjusted properly, it closes up air tight. I was skeptical of its odorlessness, but it can be in you pocket undetected for sure. It does require more cleaning than a glass pipe, but it's not too much of a chore (use 99% alcohol). Another tip - if you're going to pop the resin trap out, be sure to warm up the bowl to loosen the resins bond to the bowl/trap, otherwise you could easily bend your pick.

100% would recommend.

Four Decades

I've had the same Proto for 33 years. How many pieces have you gone through. It's been everywhere and I mean that.
I've replaced 1 poker, hung off a cliff to save the second one. 1 stash tube, bruise left a hell of a mark, but weld broke.
I can say, I'll never buy another pipe.
